I think we all have a Disney film classic we all love and mine was Beauty and Beast. I think that is where my love for castles may have actually stemed from, now I come to think about it and the haunting look it had when it was in its darkness and gloom before Beast transformed back into the dashing Prince.

The inspiration for beasts castle which featured in both the 1991 cartoon and the live action remake in 2017, was The Chateau de Chambord in the Loire Valley.
History and its Haunting
The history of Chateau de Chambord is far from a fairy tale, it is filled with a sinister history of war and death, having served as a hospital during the Franco-Prussian War, and becoming the final resting place of dying soldiers.
With such a gruesome past, the people residing in the surrounding area claim to have witnessed the ghosts of the departed soldiers within the castle.
