The DYBBUK BOX!

dybbuk

In Jewish mythology, a dybbuk (Yiddish: דיבוק‎, from the Hebrew verb דָּבַק‬ dāḇaq meaning “adhere” or “cling”) is a malicious possessing spirit believed to be the dislocated soul of a dead person. It supposedly leaves the host body once it has accomplished its goal, sometimes after being helped. The term first appears in a number of 16th century writings and refers to earlier accounts of possession.

The first dybbuk box appeared nationally in 2003 when antique store owner Kevin Mannis bought a vintage wine box from a 103-year-old Holocaust survivor via eBay.

Kevin experiemced a string of unexplained hauntings, including recurring nightmares, unexplained bruises, and the incessant stench of ammonia, the box soon found its way back onto eBay and, after a few ownership swaps, landed in the hands of its current foster parent, Jason Haxton, the Director of the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, who paid $280 for the artefact in 2004 from eBay user “spasmolytic.” (Haxton was the winning bidder, out of 51.). A victim of the box’s wrath, Haxton sealed and buried the box somewhere in Missouri, but he recently dug it back up for a television cameo in a new show by paranormal hot shot Zac Bagans of Ghost Adventures fame.

Haxton says he is skeptical about “copycat” dybbuk boxes for sale on the digital marketplace. “There’s only one dybbuk box,” he said. “Any other box is a load of crap.”

Of course many will say that i bound to disagree with Haxton statement on this.

The box you see above belongs in The Paranormal Hauntings Creepy corner. This is slightly different to the boxes you see on the digital marketplace as this was given to a team by a family in America. The team here in the UK didn’t feel comfortable with having it around and stored it in the attic, which then i had it off them.

There is not many dyybbuk boxes on the market that actually has Hebrew writing engraved on it and there isn’t many dybbuk boxes on the market that actually hold items within it like this one. Also there isnt many on the market that is closed up, normally they will state it is a dybbuk box but will also show you it open, so basically it is a emoty box! This box came closed, with string and wax attached to it. I have never opened this box, but it is extremely heavy to carry and there is items within in that moving around within it.

The Hebrew on this specific box writing from down up ways reads ‘Spirit Saul Sealed within’ and across the top ‘ DEMON/EVIL SPIRIT.

When I first collected this box, it seemed nothing more then a box. I took it home and decided to do a spirit box session. I asked for a name and it gave ‘NICO’ several times, upon researching this name i found that ‘NICO’ is actually a name given for a fake demon on a video game. I found this quite interesting and quite clever that this name had came across.

Later on that night i decided to do another spirit box session, I placed it on the table and left it there as i set up the spirit box, i heard knocks that was happening within the box. It wasn’t just me who witnessed this and it was caught on video this then triggered a interest in it. Logically i thought, it could be just one of the items falling but it had been placed on the table for some time and it seemed to repeat it after i asked. One person present during this picked up the box and shook it and said ‘HE DIDNT BELIEVE IN IT’ and willed it to hurt him. After the session this person decided to have a lay down in the room where the box was present, when he woke he had 3 scratches on his arm, which as a sceptical person he is he couldn’t explain. He has short nails and he described it as a burning sensation that woke him.

Live ITC sessions was conducted with this and the results also proved somewhat interesting. It was one particular one that sticks in my mind, the box responded after a question with ‘KNOCK KNOCK’ it was asked who was there and it responded with ‘NOBODY’. Later on during the live ‘KNOCK KNOCK’ came through another 2 times, something which the ITC responses has never been before. The name ‘SAUL’ had came through several times and the word ‘FLASH’. When ever the box seemed to be present during a ITC session the word ‘FLASH’ would come through several times. Not only that during lives people experienced flashing of lights throughout the feed. This could have been due to signal but it did only seem to occur when the box again was present. ITC responses has also made reference to very biblical terms such as the 4 horsemen, king Saul and the end of days mentioned in the book of revelations. . When asked ‘WHAT DATE DO YOU WANT TO BE OPENED’ the instant response was the 23rd September.

The 23rd of September has many spiritual and religious and superstitious meanings behind it, most groups have actually thought that over the years this date has marked the end of the world, of course it didn’t happen but it still doesn’t stop people believing this theory year after year.

September 23 is the 266th day of the year (267th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. It is frequently the day of the autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the day of the vernal equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. The 23rd of September 2017 was interesting this particular year as the sun will be in the constellation Virgo (the virgin), along with the moon near Virgo’s feet. Additionally, Jupiter will be in Virgo, while the planets Venus, Mars, and Mercury will be above and to the right of Virgo in the constellation Leo. Some people claim that this is a very rare event (allegedly only once in 7,000 years) and that it supposedly is a fulfilment of a sign in Revelation 12. Revelation 12:1–2 (ESV) reads:
”And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth.”

What is also interesting is that the 23rd of September 2017. Well some theorists suggested that on this date a boxed demon would be released on earth and left to wonder. Now i no it seems very far fetched and i am not saying that if i had opened the box on this date, that is what would of happened but what i am pointing out is that it is interesting that the ITC gave this date and the theories attached to it to the date and the box.

Now i may be clutching at straws here but if this box is indeed a copycat of the dyybbuk box that first came to light in 2003, then the people who have done it have gone to length of thought behind it. A example of this thought is this, written on the box is ‘SAUL’, the name ‘KING SAUL’ has came over in ITC sessions and if you look at the biblical history King saul was the first person mentioned in the bible to talk to a ghost. Not just that King saul is also mentioned in the Hebrew bible and the first ever links to mediumship documented was the story of the Witch of Endor, the story tells of how King saul ordered the witch to raise the spirit of the deceased prophet Samuel.

Life with the Dybbuk

The Dybbuk box has a certain important feel to it, if something is indeed guarding it i feel it is extremely clever. I was quite eager to have it opened at one time but now i am less inclined. Why do i feel like this? i am not sure i am not scared of it, i still want to explore if it has indeed has a haunting attached to it, if i was to open it, the theory is i would set free who ever is around it so that would mean my research of it would come to a end. I feel a certain degree of attachment to this box also and feel as if i need to protect it to a degree. What i would like to do is have it x-rayed. This is something i have been planning for a while and something that i will do later on this year.

What could the items be within?

I really have no idea, if it is a simple joke, i suspect it would be something silly. I don’t though i think what ever items is placed within this is of some importance.

Other owners of dybbuk boxes who have opened theirs have been greeted with locks of hair, holy statues and even urns full of ashes but like i say many dybbuks on the market have never actually been sealed nor do they have anything in them when they are opened. The chance of finding a dybbuk within items within it is quite rare.

Here is a documentary on some of the reports of the box
