Crow Hill Standing Stone (Menhir) – Bramcote, Nottingham – Nottingham’s Forgotten Stone.

Hidden amongst the trees on a hill in Bramcote Hills Park is a standing stone historians believe dates back to the Bronze Age. It’s use or why it’s there is a mystery.

It’s believed it could have connections with the nearby mystical Hemlock Stone, which is another rock formation which has many debating on where it came from and how it’s been used.

It’s believed the name Crow came from how the stone resembles a Crow and the hole upon it is what gives it away being Neolithic, yet 1777 is engraved upon it.

I can’t help but feel both Crow hill standing stone is somewhat connected to the Pagan Celtic rituals that used to practiced at Hemlock Stone, but feel this little gems history as been Hidden or lost over the years.

The stone sits on what would have been the Bramcote ‘Hill House’ estate, which only the foundations of this historic house now remain. The house was passed to Henry Holden in 1892 after the death of his brother, its detailed that Henry was a interesting character and his nickname was “Hellfire Jack” even though he was the Chief Constable for Nottinghamshire!

I’m going to put it out there – Was there Hell Fire connections? Maybe, that’s why I may feel this entire areas history as been Hidden and kept secret because it indeed may have been.

I’ve struggled to find any ghost sightings or any stories attached to the ‘Hills House’ which I find interesting as it was abandoned until the 1960s, one would assume that there would be some documentation online of teenagers, kids or explorers who during this time visited the house in its abandoned state but there isn’t..
